Change in Release Schedule for The Hobbit, Part 3

News came out ten hours ago that instead of being released in July 2014, The Hobbit, Part 3 will be pushed back to become a holiday release, now scheduled for December 2014. According to Reuters...

The final installment of “The Hobbit” film trilogy will be released on December 17, 2014, five months later than planned, Warner Bros. said on Thursday.

“The Hobbit: There and Back Again” had been set to debut in July 2014. It will follow “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which came out in December 2012, and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” which reached theaters in December 2013.

“We’re excited to complete the trilogy the same way we started it, as a holiday treat for moviegoers everywhere,” said Dan Fellman, president of distribution for Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc.

“The Hobbit” series is a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy “The Lord of the Rings,” which director Peter Jackson made into three Oscar-winning films about a decade ago.

This, of course, really kills the idea of a Minnesota get-together for the premier *sigh*...

Yeah, wouldn't be nearly as fun. I don't even own proper clothes for MN winters anymore. D=
It's so unfair. It would have been a wonderful reason for many of us to make the trip but no-one in their right mind really wants to play in Minnesota during December! Argh! I'm totally bummed...

now having to think about another reason/location to gather ...
Possibly we could shoot for a general gathering anyway summer of 2014. I've also been thinking that if we wanted a larger regional contingent, we might see who's all interested and figure out which Midwestern city is most central to everyone. I get the feeling Madison or something might be in more peoples' paths and personally I need an excuse to have some kind of train adventure. Of course I say all this as someone with no money, and so many other people are in the same position.
That's why I'm thinking ahead, to allow people to save a little bit at a time. So, let's put our virtual heads together in April and see what kind of call-out we could do to determine a central or a preferred location and a time frame. It would TOTALLY rock!

Yeah, and we are so excited that we have to wait half a year more...

REALLY? PREQUEL?
Oh well, if they're "exited"....

Thanks for letting us know 1L.
Yeah...well...it's Reuter's after all :-)

I was quite bummed to get the news and thought I'd share as soon as I heard. Then again, I am still wondering what they are going to have in two more movies...
