Happy Birthday to the Master

Today we raise a glass in honor of The Master - the one and only JRR Tolkien.  May you live on in the hearts of your millions of readers forever.

My life would be so much more desolate without his contributions to it.

Although he would probably absolutely consider me an utter orc for what I have done to his world, as soon as I read LOTR I recognized Middle-earth. It was as if I was remembering something I had forgotten, and I don't mean as if I lived there, but as if it is embedded in the race-memory or something, so I will always be grateful he wrote what he did.
Although he probably absolutely might consider you anathema in his canon structure, and might dislike the playground that you have made of his Middle Earth, I think he would admire the world that you have made and how you have populated it. Your body of work is magnificent, rich, vibrant, and features fully-realized characters who are both positive and negative, as most of those walking this earth are. And if The Master couldn't see that after reading your work, he should have been ashamed of himself. You rock, my friend. You rock!

Wow. Thank-you very much for that lovely compliment.
