It Was a Busy Wednesday - Cooking and Computer Work

I didn't get around to doing anything except grocery shopping and working in the house yesterday, so no keyboard shopping or other errands. But I did get a lot done. In the USA, it's generally best to shop for groceries on Wednesdays. Why? Because most grocery stores have their next sales beginning on Thursday, but the computer work to put everything new on sale usually already applies on a Wednesday. So, in essence, you can take advantage of overlapping bargain days.

BOGO, when it's on a product that I actually can use, is a wonderful thing. I've been able to take full advantage of this one with chicken at the start and again at the end of the sale. I ended up saving more than $30 on chicken between the two days.

What Is A Gift? Time? An Object? Or How About Just The Kindness Of Giving

I awakened early today, at 2:30 am instead of 3:00 am, so I settled in for a comfortable meditation. Which I had, and it was lovely. Then I gathered the laundry together and got the first load started, and I found a couple of other things that need to be added to the recycling bin which is being collected today. Add in a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and suddenly I'm tight on time. I need to be on my way to the swimming pool in a little more than 30 minutes. That extra half hour I got earlier has disappeared into the maelstrom of little bits of things here and there.

Maelstroms are very real, as this photo attests to. Sometimes life can become a maelstrom, sucking you into thoughts and actions without your thinking about things at all. All you can do then is ride the wave and hope that it spits you back out again.

Third Strike and Turkeys - My Life Is Never Boring

So I finally got my third strike in my writing group. It wasn't a surprise - I don't have a large group of people I can call upon to vote for my work. I probably would have taken a strike within the next week anyway, though. When Sharon is here, I'm not writing, I'm spending my time with her and that's the way it should be. She arrives on Thursday, and we'll be in high speed State Fair mode from then until I drop her back at the airport on Tuesday morning on my way into the shop.

I struck out in my writing group, and it's a disappointment, of course. Still, I managed to get into the top 16, and I'm pleased about that. I don't have a large number of people I can call upon for votes, and it seems rather petty anyway. Writing should stand on its' own feet - good or bad. I know I'm a good writer, sometimes almost brilliant, other times just this side of the dumpster. I'm human. But I like to write, so I'll probably play in this playground again.

Underwear That Actually Fits and a Clean House - A Day of Accomplishment

Amidst all of the housecleaning (and I did get s LOT done yesterday), I went shopping first thing in the morning. I needed greens for my Ogre Juice, lunch if there was good sushi (there was, and it was delicious), and I needed paper towels and kleenex for the shop. Paper products are essential, and we were on our last box of Kleenex and last roll of paper towels - we use both a LOT. So ... Target was necessary.

Target is a Minnesota corporation, and I have several choices of Targets within a reasonable driving distance. Road construction forces me, right now, to choose my second favorite location, but that's not too bad.

A Friday of Busy, Busy, and Busy - Link for Voting Once Again Too

Today is my Friday "day off" and on today's agenda is a physical "wellness checkup" with my Doctor, followed by grocery and sundries shopping, followed by making Ogre Juice, followed by vacuuming the house top to bottom. If I don't collapse after the vacuuming, I might be able to make new hummingbird food and maybe even spend a little time in the garden. That would be a nice thing.

I'm not seeing as many hummingbirds anymore, I suspect some of them are already migrating south. But I still need to keep an eye out for the feeder levels. I don't want them to go without.

It's Voting Time - We're Down to 16 Authors, So Please Vote

We are down to 16 if LJ Idol now, and votes are more and more important. I posted my story about Michael Rockefeller's death while doing what he loved in yesterday's post, but here's a link to the story once again. ( erulissedances.DW.org/890658.html ). Read it and if you think it merits your vote, please go to https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1126577.html and cast your vote for me.

It's impossible, in our world these days, to completely isolate tribal peoples from the larger world around them. Even in the depths of the Amazon rain forest, the deepest deserts and here, in New Guinea, there will be interactions between old and new. The only questions is how will each be perceived and utilized by the tribal people as well as those first interacting with them, and what long-term effects will be felt in each culture from that intersection.

A Story Posted, A Small Celebration and Michael Rockefeller - My Inspiration This Week

I'm running a bit late today so I'll do a quick post. First of all, I did get my story posted last night. I'll put a link here when voting opens up so that you can read and, hopefully, vote at the same time. I decided to go with my initial instinct and chose the death of Michael Rockefeller at the hands of the New Guinea headhunting tribes in the early 1960's. Back to an anthropological framework once again, and a story that held great interest for me for a long time.

I adore this photo of Michael Rockefeller among the New Guinea people. The sheer joy on his face as they dance around him is illuminating. This is what he wanted to do and this is where he wanted to be.

Swimming and Writing - Two Different Things That Have To Happen Today

Back to the swimming pool again today and I've got a story due tomorrow with three different drafts in process. I'm not happy with any of them. When I write, I need the words to sing to me. I've got two different themes in hand, and neither have managed to do more than a nursery rhyme - far from the opera I need to stay in the competition. I'm a bit frustrated, but I'll pull something out. It's just going to be a PITA.

Sometimes writing to a theme is a royal PITA, but it's my job to grab a promising tendril of plot and whip it into a storyline of consequence. We'll see if I manage to pull that off this time.

Renaissance Festival Was a Perfect Late Summer/Early Fall Day - Schedules and Timetables

Renaissance Festival yesterday was about the most perfect day we could have gotten. The temps were mild, the sun was shining, the crowd wasn't obnoxious, lots of people were in costume of various types, and the mud from the serious rains of Saturday was only bad in the usual places and very avoidable.

It was a perfect day for Ren Fest - a slight bit cooler in the morning, and not too hot by the afternoon. The sky was perfectly blue, and the mud wasn't too bad (there had been a serious rain the day before). Here, we are sitting with our morning beverages - coffee for DH, Chai tea for me.

Housecleaning, Groceries and Other Errands - A Busy "Day Off" Yet Again

Today it's bathroom day. Cleaning, that is! I've been cleaning the shower daily for several weeks now so I don't have to bother with that. But I want to scrub the sinks and floors and give the walls a swipe or two. I might even break down and wash the drapes ... or not. LOL I'll have to see how my time is going before committing to the drapes.

I would get a professional out to handle my livingroom draperies, but I'm just thinking about washing the drapes for the bathrooms, and those are small and much easier to handle. Then again, it might not be worth the trouble - LOL.
